Jefferson is a neighborhood school transforming into a college and career prep school in partnership with the CA GEAR UP program. Jefferson’s college and career culture emphasizes the A-G high school requirements by providing Core Instruction as well as electives that integrate literacy based projects related to reading informational text and persuasive writing. The strong elective program offered at Jefferson includes classes like Career Technical Education (CTE), Digital Literacy, Band, Orchestra, Chorus, and Spanish. The Oceanside Unified School District has put an emphasis to educate the “whole child” beyond academics. At Jefferson Middle School, our students and staff will be reviewing the 8 Keys of Excellence every week of the school year. Measles Information for Parents
The San Diego County Office of Health and Human Services has verified several reported cases of measles throughout the county. Please know that NO cases of this highly contagious viral infection have been reported in the Oceanside Unified School District.
Click Measles Information to learn more about what you can to help prevent the spread of this condition, and what to do should you suspect your child or some other person in your family or household may have symptoms of measles. In the event of any reported cases in our district, you will be informed. Visit Centers for Disease Control for further information.
School of Choice Application Process for 2015-16 begins January 5
Parents looking to move a child from one OUSD school site to another for the 2015-16 school year can begin applying for the district’s School of Choice (SOC) option beginning January 5, 2015. The deadline to file the application is Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
Click School of Choice for specific details on the application process, and to view a list of schools classified as “capped” due to enrollment capacity. For more information, please call the OUSD Student Services Department at 760-966-7802.
Interdistrict Transfer Requests for 2015-16 School Year
Requests to transfer students to schools located inside or outside the OUSD zoned boundaries will be accepted beginning January 5, 2015. Interdistrict application forms are available at the OUSD Education Support Services Office, 2080 Mission Ave. The office is open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Jefferson Brag Board
Jefferson Middle School is doing some amazing things!
Ms. Daniels, 8th grade history teacher, received a grant from the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce for books! And we love books! These books will supplement her lessons on the US Constitution and give our 8th graders more access to deeper understanding! Congratulations, Ms. Daniels!
Dr. Nicholson received a grant for over $700! The grant will supply our science classes with a robotic arm, model rocket, and remote control airplane to teach aerospace and science! Way to go, Dr. Nicholson!
Ms. Meza, 7th grade science teacher, was selected to participate in the "Voyage to the Galapagos" project! This is an interactive study where students can "travel" to the Galapagos to study the wildlife and learn about the ecosystems from our computer labs! Great opportunity! Congrats, Ms. Meza!

OUSD Policy on Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination
The local educational agency (LEA) adopted a policy that prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.
ParentLink App Available for Parents
A new ParentLink App for smart phones is now available to OUSD parents. The App aims to provide and improve all avenues of district and student communication and information for parents.
ParentLink’s easy-to-use App provides emergency messaging, custom messages and language translation. Parents can now get OUSD information when they need it.
OUSD Parents using the district’s Aeries portal will be receiving an e-mail with instructions on how to download the App. For more information, please see the district website at http://www.oside.us/parentlink.
Peachjar E-Flyer Service

Online Meal Registration
Parents can register their children online for the 2014-15 OUSD school lunch and breakfast programs. The national program provides meals at a reduced cost; eligible students with an approved free or reduced status may receive meals at no cost. Click Online Meal Registration to get started.
